A Passion Begins
From an early age Mark Peterson’s dad instilled in him values that haven’t changed: "Mark, if you are not willing to sign your name on the work someone is asking you to do, walk away, do it the right way, or don't do it at all." Mark and his dad (an Industrial Arts teacher) would build decks, roof sheds, and other wood-working projects. The joy of designing and building was evident at age 10 when Mark asked for 8 sheets of 4x8 plywood for his birthday! By 1979 Mark was ready to start doing his own projects.
Establishing Roots in Edina
Mark moved to Edina, where he has lived ever since. Being a part of the community is important for Mark. From the schools and local organizations to the neighborhoods – Edina is a place where people come, and people stay as a close-knit community.
Incorporation and Expansion
MA Peterson DesignBuild Inc is officially incorporated by the state of Minnesota. Around this time Mark hires his first employee and Mark’s brother Dave joins the growing company as well.
A New Home Base
MA Peterson moves to its current location on Wooddale Avenue in Edina. We’re honored to have been invited into so many homes in Edina. The City of Edina’s Century Homes program highlights both the heritage and architectural creativity that we are proud to contribute to. Our goal is to respect this history and continue to help build homes for the next century.

Mark is our humble leader – starting MA Peterson in 1979 after working with his Dad for a few years. Mark remains deeply involved in design conception. You can read more about Mark and our history above.
Beth Hendrickson
Designer
As a licensed Architect, Beth uses her education and year of experience to carefully conceptualize beautiful and functional spaces for homeowners. She leads our team of designers by providing help, feedback, and encouragement to their designs.
Stephen Jelks
Designer
Originally from Indiana, Stephen has 15 years of construction and design experience. He enjoys the opportunity to serve our homeowners by using the latest design technologies to help them visualize their projects.
Vitaly Dzyadzyulya
Designer
Born and raised in Europe, Vitaly showcases his high knowledge and experience as an architectural designer in all that he creates. He’s adjusted (slightly!) to Minnesota winters and loves to travel with his family.
Bria Armstrong
Designer
In addition to a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the U of M, Bria draws on seven years of experience to provide each client with beautiful and functional spaces. She enjoys spending time at the cabin, with friends, and caring for her pets.
Dave Peterson
Sales
With over 30 years working at MA Peterson alongside his brother Mark, Dave loves to connect with and guide homeowners in bringing their vision to reality. Dave is an avid golfer and enjoys traveling with his family.
Amy Heimermann
Interior Design Coordinator
Born and raised in Atlanta, Amy brings her southern hospitality to Minnesota. With 20 years in interior design, she loves to follow our clients through the selection process. Her family is her greatest joy.
Dan Nunn
Director of Operations
Dan has over 40 years of residential construction experience. He leads project operations by overseeing quality control and coordination. He brings a unique perspective having worked for MAP for seven years in the late 1990s.

A native of St. Paul, Daniel brings 24 years of experience in residential construction and estimating. He is passionate about crafting precise and detailed estimates for clients, ensuring transparency and accuracy throughout the process.
Mark Sachwitz
Project Manager
With over 40 years of construction experience, Mark’s higher education is “Life University!” When he isn’t pounding out a job he loves to golf, hunt, go up north, and enjoy his German Shepherds.
Josh Mahoney
Project Manager
With over 20 years of experience in landscape, carpentry, and project management in both residential and commercial settings – Josh is a true master craftsman. The right way is the only way for Josh – and that includes good communication with clients.
Mark Nelson
Project Manager
Mark has over 35 years of industry experience and has been a dedicated member of the MA Peterson team for years. His work ethic and industry knowledge make him an invaluable asset to every project. Outside of work, Mark enjoys fishing, being outdoors, and relaxing on the lake!
Andrew Favaro
Carpenter
With a degree from UND in Psychology and a background as a strength coach, Andrew uses both his intellect and strength to get the job done as a carpenter. He enjoys the outdoors and contributing to the onsite success of our projects.
Peter Thorpe
Director
Peter grew up in south Minneapolis and earned his MBA from Bethel University. He now leads our Financial, HR, and Marketing teams. He likes to ask questions and encourage systems thinking!
Ginger Bohr
Office Manager
With years in the financial industry and a degree in Finance, Ginger ensures smooth operations, handles administrative tasks, and fosters a supportive environment for the team. Known for her reliability and efficiency, she takes pleasure in assisting others.
April Babcock
Accounting
Since earning her bachelor’s degree from UMD, April has refined her skills in the financial industry - focusing on efficiency and accuracy. She oversees all client billings, vendor payments, and helps with our monthly closeout process.
Makenna Elphick

Makenna holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and graphic design from UMD. She loves strategic thinking with a creative touch, ensuring our message is relayed to our audience through innovative campaigns and consistent branding efforts.
