Lavish Details and Old Pub Charm

The Vision

This Edina home’s basement was outdated and no longer meeting the needs of the family. Underutilized and lacking purpose, it didn’t provide the gathering space they were looking for. The homeowners envisioned a remodel that would allow them to host, relax, and connect as a family. Drawing inspiration from their European travels, they wanted a lower-level rich with old-world character and complete with distinctive details like a custom red leather seating booth.

The Design

The centerpiece of this remodel is a classic Irish pub–inspired bar, elevated with luxurious finishes such unlacquered brass accents, thick-profile natural marble, and lion head corbels. Every element was carefully considered to balance authenticity with modern comfort, resulting in a space that feels both timeless and inviting. Beyond the bar, the lower level offers a variety of spaces for both entertainment and leisure. A custom-built puzzle table features sliding panels and a hidden compartment for storing in-progress puzzles, while a dedicated wine cellar showcases the homeowners’ collection. The bathroom brings another layer of sophistication with dramatic all-black millwork, a custom marble sink, and rich detailing that ties into the overall design.

The Result

The finished lower level blends pub-inspired charm with thoughtful craftsmanship, creating a space as unique as the homeowners themselves. Whether gathering with friends, enjoying family time, or savoring a quiet evening by the bar, this remodel provides a warm and memorable backdrop for every occasion.
